New Orleans- The City

New Orleans has come come beautifully after the devastation caused by the hurricane Katrina. It has many interesting places and tourist spots.
The French Quarters (Vieux Carre) is the place to board. It has a wide selection available from cheap guest houses to exclusve boutique hotels. Once you are settled in wander around the French Quarter, soak in the  architecture,enjoy  the street entertainers  and visit some of the historic buildings that have been turned into museums.
Another good place around that area is the riverwalk shopping center which has a great air- conditioned food court which serves exclusive delicacies. The dining experience is overlooking the river. The Canal Place shopping center is in the French Quarter and has a cinema and higher-end shopping.

The sight seeing oppurtunities include the architectural wonders around the french quarters,carriage rides/tours, plantation tours, swamp tours and even ghost tours.The Riverwalk shopping center has a great  air-conditioned food court with dining overlooking the river.
The carnival also known as Mardi Gras is another major attraction. It is the final and grandest day of festivities, on the last Tuesday before the Catholic liturgical season of Lent.

New Orleans has always been renowned for its food. The indigenous cuisine is distinctive and influential. Some of the delicacies are
"French doughnuts" (served with café au lait made with a blend of coffee and chicory rather than only coffee); Po' boy and Italian Muffuletta sandwiches. Cafe du Monde is in the French Quarter and you shouldn't miss having cafe au lait & beignets. Another great coffee shop is the Croissant d'Or (at 615 Ursulines Street).
